How the Nervous System works

(AUA= Ouch)

The nervous system is the most complex system and it serves as the control center of our body and allows for communication throughout our body so that we can respond to our environment. In the flipbook animation above, a man is boiling his water and leaves his metal spoon in the water, so it got very hot. When the man grabs the spoon he is burned. When the man burned his hand the peripheral nervous system sent signals from the nerves in his hand up to his brain. Electrical impulses travel through axons and neurons to send messages from our body toour brain. The brain has billions of neurons that receive, analyze and store information about internal and external conditions. As soon as the message from the nerves in the hand is received by the brain, the brain searches for a solution to stop the pain ans sends electrical signals to his arm, so that the arm moves away from the hot spoon. This is the somatic nervous system that enables the man to react consciously to the enviromental changes. It includes 31 pairs of spinal nerves and 12 pairs of cranial nerves. This system controls the movement of the skeletal muscles. My flipbook animation shows all of these steps of our nervous system.
When we are aging our nervous system slows down because the brain and spline are losing nerves and the nerves are transmitting messages slower.
To keep our nervous system healthy it is good to reduce the stress level, excercise regular, to not drink alcohol and to have a healthy weight.
